Business SchoolBusiness Week and Bloomberg have done an excellent job of deciphering which are the top-ranked business schools. One is able to take a look at which schools McKinsey and Citicorp hire from; to rank by class size, best career services, which is the most selective or which has the most international student body. Many of the same names hit the lists, and it is no surprise in the end that Harvard, Wharton, Stanford, MIT, and the like are considered top choices.
Many employers target the top 10-15 schools with their human resource department outreach. They do so because it is an efficient way to get quality recruits. These same employers though know that there are many more qualified candidates spread across say the top 100 schools. It is just much more difficult to tap into this large of a pipeline. It is equally difficult for the graduating MBAs to make their resumes stand out when so many candidates are clamoring for the relatively few jobs.
